Andy Yiadom joins AFC Wimbledon on short-term deal

Ghana defender Andy Yiadom has joined English League Two side AFC Wimbledon on a five-month contract.

The 34-year-old arrives with almost 400 appearances across the English Football League and is expected to add experience and defensive cover to manager Johnnie Jackson's squad.

Yiadom had been training with Wimbledon for several weeks before the move was completed, with Jackson saying the veteran's performances during that period convinced the club to offer him a deal.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to play for Wimbledon, and I'm ready to give my all for the team," Yiadom said after signing.

"I'm really excited to get involved in the games that we have coming up."

Jackson welcomed the signing, highlighting the defender's leadership qualities and versatility.

"Andy has been training with us for a number of weeks and has really impressed," he said.

"He has vast experience of the level, brings character and leadership and much-needed cover in defensive positions."

Yiadom's career in English football began at Barnet, where he made 177 appearances after converting from a winger into a right-back. He was named in the Conference Team of the Year after helping Barnet win the 2014-15 title.

He joined Barnsley in 2016 and later became club captain during the 2017-18 season before moving to Reading in 2018.

During an eight-year spell at Reading, Yiadom made 253 appearances and was voted the club's Player of the Season for 2021-22.

The defender has also represented Ghana at international level and will now hope to use his experience to make an immediate impact during his short-term spell at Wimbledon.
