Ghanaian clubs Medeama Sporting Club and Nations Football Club will discover their opponents for the preliminary rounds of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup on Thursday, August 6, 2026.
The draws for both competitions will be held at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, where participating clubs will learn their paths in Africa’s premier interclub competitions.
Medeama secured Ghana’s ticket to the CAF Champions League after winning the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title, while Nations FC earned qualification for the Confederation Cup after lifting the FA Cup.
The Tarkwa-based side will be hoping to make a strong impression on their return to Africa’s elite club competition, while Nations FC will aim to announce their arrival on the continental stage with a memorable campaign.
CAF has increased the financial incentives for its interclub competitions, with the winners of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League set to pocket USD 6 million, while the Confederation Cup champions will receive USD 4 million.
Teams that exit during the preliminary rounds will also benefit from CAF’s solidarity payments, with each eliminated club receiving USD 100,000 as part of the organisation’s efforts to support participating teams and strengthen its club competitions.
The preliminary stages of the CAF interclub tournaments have consistently delivered exciting encounters, featuring battles between established African powerhouses and emerging clubs seeking to establish themselves among the continent’s best.
