2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship: Black Satellites suffer group phase elimination without a win
Ghana's Black Satellites have suffered a disappointing exit from the group stage of the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship after finishing their campaign without registering a single victory.
The four-time African champions concluded their Group B campaign with a goalless draw against Togo on Sunday at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro, Côte d'Ivoire.
Heading into the decisive fixture, Ghana needed all three points to keep their hopes of reaching the semifinals alive after opening the tournament with a 4-2 defeat to Nigeria before settling for a 1-1 draw against Burkina Faso.
Despite creating opportunities, the Black Satellites were unable to find the breakthrough against Togo, with the match ending 0-0 after 90 minutes.
The result saw Ghana finish third in Group B with just two points from three matches, having scored three goals and failed to record a win throughout the competition.
Although the early exit represents a disappointing outing for the former African champions, Ghana's place at the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations is already guaranteed, with the country set to host the tournament as part of activities marking its 70th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
Following the underwhelming campaign in Côte d'Ivoire, attention is expected to shift to a review of both the technical team and playing squad as Ghana prepares to host the continental showpiece next year, where expectations will be high for a much stronger performance on home soil.
