Chelsea: Mykhailo Mudryk doping case resolved, available to return to action with immediate effect
Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk is eligible to return to competitive action with immediate effect after a resolution was reached between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the Football Association (FA) over an anti-doping violation.
The FA and Chelsea confirmed in statements on Friday that the anti-doping disciplinary proceedings against Mudryk had been resolved.
Mudryk, 25, has not represented Chelsea since November 2024 following a suspension for an adverse finding in a urine sample. It was confirmed in April he had been hit with a four-year ban, the English FA’s maximum penalty for doping, which he was appealing at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The FA said in a statement that the Ukraine international had accepted he had committed an anti-doping rule violation and the period of ineligibility, after a low concentration of meldonium was found during an out of competition test.
However, the concentration of meldonium in his sample would not have been reported as a positive test today or resulted in a violation, following WADA revisions.
“Since then, changes have been made to WADA Technical Document (TD2027MRL) which, while not retroactive, mean that if Mr Mudryk’s sample was collected today, the concentration of meldonium in the sample would not have been reported and no ADRVs (Anti-Doping Rule Violations) would have resulted,” the FA statement read.
“Mr Mudryk is no longer ineligible and may return to competition with immediate effect.”
Mudryk’s most recent appearance for Chelsea came in a 2-0 win over Heidenheim in the Conference League on November 28, 2024, and he was an unused substitute against Aston Villa on December 1.
The winger’s subsequent omissions from matchday squads were attributed to illness by then-head coach Enzo Maresca. On December 17, the FA provisionally suspended him after an adverse finding in a routine urine sample. He was formally charged in June 2025.
A Chelsea statement read: “From the outset, this has been an extremely difficult period for Misha, both professionally and personally, and we are pleased that the matter has now reached a conclusion which allows him to return to football with immediate effect.”
