Samson Deen rewards Commonwealth Games medalists as Zinabu Issah receives £2,000 bonus

President of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Ghana and the African Paralympic Committee (APC), Samson Deen, has fulfilled his pledge to financially reward Ghana's para athletes who win medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

On Tuesday, General Secretary of the Ghana Paralympic Committee, Henry Larbi, presented a cash reward of £2,000 to para athlete Zinabu Issah on behalf of Mr. Deen. The presentation fulfilled a promise made to Team Ghana before the start of the Games.

Zinabu Issah became the first beneficiary of the initiative after securing Ghana's first medal at the Games, winning silver in the women's F57 shot put event.

As part of the Special Target Podium Medal Bonus scheme introduced by the NPC President, gold medal winners will receive £3,000, silver medalists £2,000, and bronze medalists £1,000.

According to Mr. Deen, the incentive is designed to reward outstanding performances, inspire athletes to strive for greater success, and ensure Ghana's para athletes receive the recognition they deserve for their achievements on the international stage.

He also disclosed plans to expand the initiative ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games through the "Follow My Athlete" Scheme, which is expected to provide additional support and motivation for Ghana's para athletes as they prepare for future global competitions.
