Medeama set $1.5m target as club eyes CAF Champions League group stage
Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC have set their sights on reaching the group stage of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League as they prepare to represent the country in Africa’s premier club competition.
The Tarkwa-based side earned their place in the continental tournament after clinching the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title, and club officials have made it clear that their ambition extends beyond simply participating.
Medeama Communications Director Benjamin Graham revealed on Akoma FM that the Yellow and Mauve outfit is determined to compete with the continent’s elite clubs and establish itself as a major force in African football.
“Our ambition is to reach the group stage of the CAF Champions League and compete at the highest level against some of Africa's biggest clubs,” Graham said.
To support their continental ambitions, Medeama have committed a budget of $1.5 million for their Champions League campaign, a move the club believes highlights its seriousness about making a strong impact.
“Our budget for the CAF Champions League campaign alone is $1.5 million, which reflects our level of commitment and our ambition to make a deep run in the competition,” he stated.
The 2026/27 CAF inter-club competitions are scheduled to begin in the first week of September, with Medeama carrying Ghana’s hopes in the Champions League following their domestic triumph.
The Tarkwa club will now focus on strengthening its squad and preparations ahead of the challenge of competing against Africa’s top sides.
