2026 Commonwealth Games: Abdul-Rasheed Saminu cruises into 100m semi-finals with season’s best

Ghanaian sprint star Abdul-Rasheed Saminu made a commanding start to his 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign by securing qualification for the men's 100m semi-finals with a convincing victory in his opening heat on Monday.

The national record holder produced an impressive run, crossing the finish line in a season's best time of 10.01 seconds to comfortably claim first place.

He finished well ahead of Orphee Topize, who clocked 10.38 seconds, while Mc Kish Compton completed the top three in 10.51 seconds.

Widely regarded as one of the leading contenders for the Commonwealth title, Saminu looked in complete control throughout the race, executing a composed performance that earned him automatic progression to the next round.

The Ghanaian will be back on the track on Tuesday for the semi-finals, where he will be aiming to build on his impressive start and book a place in the final as he continues his pursuit of Commonwealth Games glory.
