Otto Addo: I am eager to return as head coach or assistant coach
Former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has revealed his ambition to return to coaching after parting ways with Ghana’s senior national team.
The 50-year-old trainer was dismissed earlier this year after a disappointing run of results, despite successfully guiding Ghana to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Addo, who was handed a second spell as Ghana coach in March 2024, came under pressure following a series of poor performances in international friendlies.
The Black Stars suffered four consecutive defeats against South Korea, Japan, Germany, and Austria during their preparations for the World Cup in North America.
Following his departure, Addo continued his involvement in football by working with FIFA’s Technical Study Group during the 2026 World Cup.
Speaking in an interview with German publication 11 Freunde, the former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach insisted that his passion for the game remains intact and expressed his desire to return to the touchline.
“I am at a certain age now [that] I do believe that I want to continue as a coach or assistant coach," he said.
“[Being an] Assistant coach will also bring me a lot of joy, and of course, in certain areas I would like to naturally like to prove myself as a coach," Addo added.
Addo, who previously worked with Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar before returning for a second stint, says he is open to future opportunities either as a head coach or in an assistant role.
The former Ghana international now awaits his next challenge as he looks to continue his coaching career.
