Kim Lars Björkegren names 25-player Black Queens squad for 2026 WAFCON
Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has announced Ghana’s 25-player squad for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament in Morocco.
The Swedish tactician has combined experience and youthful talent in his selection as Ghana prepares to battle Africa’s top women’s football nations for continental honours.
The squad includes three goalkeepers: Afia Amenyeku of FK Apolonia, Cynthia Konlan Fiindib of Samatex Ladies and Osman Huzeimah of Jonina Ladies.
In defence, Björkegren has named Abena Anoma Opoku, Alex Tay, Anasteshia Achiaa, Benedicte Simon, Comfort Yeboah, Josephine Bonsu, captain Portia Boakye and Susan Amaduah.
The midfield and attacking departments feature several familiar faces in the Black Queens setup, including Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, Evelyn Badu, Grace Asantewaa, Princella Adubea, Jennifer Cudjoe, Princess Marfo, Stella Nyamekye, Alice Kusi, Linda Owusuansah, Wasima Mohammed and Sharon Sampson.
Veteran forward Doris Boaduwaa leads the attacking options alongside Abi Kim and Ajegipina Zakaria as Ghana looks to pose a serious threat at the tournament.

The Black Queens enter the competition with renewed confidence after rebuilding under Björkegren, who guided the team to a bronze medal finish in his first major assignment with the side.
The 2026 WAFCON will carry additional significance, with the tournament serving as a qualification pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Ghana will be hoping to make a deep run and secure a return to the global stage.
The Black Queens have been drawn in Group D alongside Cameroon, Mali and Cape Verde. The group stage will take place from July 26 to August 6, with the quarter-finals scheduled for August 8 and 9.
The semi-finals will be played on August 12, followed by the World Cup qualification playoffs on August 13, while the final will be held on Sunday, August 16, in Rabat.
The 2026 WAFCON will feature a record prize purse of $5.8 million, with the champions set to receive a historic $2 million reward.
Ghana, four-time WAFCON runners-up, will be aiming to end years of continental heartbreak by mounting a strong challenge for the title in Morocco.
