2026/27 GPL: Medeama begin title defence away at Dreams FC as GFA unveils fixtures
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially released the fixtures for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season, setting the tone for what promises to be another exciting campaign filled with intense rivalries, historic debuts and a fierce battle for supremacy.
Reigning champions Medeama SC will begin their quest to retain the league title with a challenging away fixture against Dreams FC, while runners-up Bibiani Gold Stars will also start the season on the road when they travel to face Bechem United.
The opening weekend will feature a number of eye-catching encounters, including the historic Premier League debut of newly promoted Debibi United FC, who will welcome Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko SC in a high-profile first top-flight appearance.
Another newly promoted side, Port City FC, will also make their Ghana Premier League bow at home against fellow newcomers FC AshantiGold 04, in what will be the first-ever league meeting between the two clubs.
In Accra, Hearts of Oak will begin their campaign at home against Berekum Chelsea as the Phobians aim to challenge for the title, while Basake Holy Stars will host Swedru All Blacks in another intriguing Matchday One fixture.
Other opening-day matches will see Vision FC entertain Young Apostles, FC Samartex 1996 welcome Karela United to Samreboi, and two-time champions Aduana FC travel to Kpando to battle Heart of Lions.
- Kotoko, Hearts Super Clash dates confirmed
The GFA has also confirmed the dates for the biggest fixture on the domestic football calendar — the Super Clash between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.
The first meeting between the two traditional rivals will take place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, with Asante Kotoko hosting Hearts of Oak on Matchday 13 between December 4 and 7, 2026.
The return fixture will be played at Hearts of Oak’s home venue on Matchday 30 from April 30 to May 3, 2027, with both encounters expected to have major consequences in the title race and continental qualification battle.
- Regional derbies set to add more excitement
The 2026/27 season calendar is packed with several high-profile regional rivalries expected to attract huge attention from supporters across the country.
The Brong Ahafo derby action will begin on Matchday 3 when Debibi United host Young Apostles. Debibi will later face Berekum Chelsea on Matchday 6 before travelling to Bechem United on Matchday 8.
Other notable Brong Ahafo clashes include Aduana FC versus Bechem United on Matchday 11, Berekum Chelsea against Young Apostles on Matchday 12, and Bechem United’s meeting with Young Apostles on Matchday 14.
The Western regional rivalry will also provide major attractions, with Medeama SC hosting Basake Holy Stars on Matchday 4. Bibiani Gold Stars will face Basake Holy Stars on Matchday 6, while FC Samartex 1996 will meet Medeama on Matchday 7 and Basake Holy Stars on Matchday 9.
Medeama and Bibiani Gold Stars will renew their rivalry on Matchday 9 when the champions host the runners-up in another highly anticipated fixture.
In the Capital Derby, Vision FC will welcome Hearts of Oak on Matchday 7, while the Ashanti Derby between FC AshantiGold 04 and Asante Kotoko is scheduled for Matchday 8, with the reverse fixture set for Matchday 25.

The final round of fixtures is expected to provide a dramatic conclusion to the season, with Hearts of Oak hosting Medeama SC, Asante Kotoko travelling to Basake Holy Stars, Vision FC facing Swedru All Blacks, Bibiani Gold Stars playing Karela United, and Debibi United ending their maiden Premier League campaign at home against Aduana FC.
The 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season will officially kick off between September 4 and 7, 2026, with matches scheduled across the league’s nine centres.
The competition will run until May 28–31, 2027, with 34 match weekends and no officially scheduled midweek fixtures. The GFA introduced the arrangement to reduce travel pressure on clubs while improving player welfare.
With the fixtures now confirmed, Ghanaian football fans can look forward to another competitive season as clubs battle for the league crown, continental qualification spots and survival in the top flight.
