2026 Commonwealth Games: Kofi Adams confident Ghana can improve medal haul
Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, is optimistic that Team Ghana will record a better performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after receiving positive updates from coaches and athletes ahead of the competition.
The Sports Minister, who has been closely following the country’s preparations, said the national contingent is in a positive frame of mind and determined to compete strongly for medals in Glasgow, Scotland.
Adams revealed that technical teams across the various disciplines have expressed confidence in Ghana’s chances, with coaches believing the team can surpass the country’s previous medal record.
“Ghana’s athletes are in high spirits,” he said.
He added: “Their coaches have assured me that they hope to win some medals, hopefully better than we did the last time.”
Ghana won two silver medals and one bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and will be aiming to improve on that performance at this year’s event.
Preparations for the Games have intensified in recent weeks, with several athletes taking part in local and international training programmes to enhance their competitiveness.
The Black Bombers, Ghana’s boxing team and one of the country’s major medal prospects, have been camping in Belfast, Ireland, where they are training alongside other international boxing teams as part of their final preparations.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games are scheduled to take place in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2, with athletes from across the Commonwealth expected to compete for honours in various sporting disciplines.
