Kofi Adams pushes for single Management Committee to oversee all Ghana national teams
The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has revealed plans to advocate for the establishment of a single standing Management Committee that will supervise the activities of all Ghana’s national teams.
Over the years, Ghana’s various national teams have operated with separate management committees appointed for specific assignments. However, Mr Adams believes a unified structure will improve coordination, continuity, and development across all levels of the national teams.
Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM on Thursday, the Minister said there is a need for a broader discussion on the management of national teams, including issues surrounding winning bonuses and administrative structures.
"As a country, I believe we need to have a conversation about these winning bonuses. It is my personal worry, and again, not only the player bonuses but also the Management Teams of the national teams," he said.
Mr Adams explained that a permanent management body made up of both male and female representatives would provide better oversight and ensure a smooth transition for players progressing through the various youth levels.
"My view and what I have been canvassing is that we should have one Management Team for all our national teams, and then when events are happening, the standing Management Team can appoint other people to assist when there are many events happening around the same time, and that will be so because the members of the Management Team are not enough to cover all the activities that are happening, we can recruit others to represent the Management Team to represent the other assignment."
The Buem Member of Parliament suggested that the committee could consist of between seven and 11 members who would be responsible for supervising all national teams, from the youth sides to the senior teams.
"If maybe we have a seven-member or 11-member Management Team of males and females for all our national teams, I believe there will be proper coordination."
According to the Sports Minister, having one management structure would allow officials to better understand the challenges facing the various teams and create a clear pathway for player development.
"We understand that the U-15 is a development level, and we will understand how we transition from that to U-17; one Management Team will be able to understand the challenges that confront the various national teams at various levels.
Mr Adams added that additional personnel could be brought in to support the committee whenever multiple competitions are scheduled at the same time.
"So I am looking to be pushing this: let's all have one Management Team for all the national teams, and if there are many competitions happening at the same time, and the members of the Management Team are not enough, we can always recruit others to come join," the Buem MP added.
