New Edubiase United President Abdul Salam Yakubu confirms club sale
New Edubiase United president Abdul Salam Yakubu has confirmed that the club is in the process of being sold, revealing that the transaction is at an advanced stage.
The Division One League side recently announced plans to find new ownership through an official promotional flyer inviting interested investors to acquire the club.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s SportsNite programme, Salam Yakubu disclosed that negotiations are nearing completion and promised to explain the circumstances surrounding the decision once the deal has been finalised.
“I’m selling New Edubiase United. 70 per cent of the deal has already been completed. I will tell my story at the right time,” he said.
The businessman and football administrator said he would provide further details after the completion of the process, suggesting that there are underlying reasons behind the decision to part ways with the club.
New Edubiase United remains one of Ghana’s notable football clubs, particularly for its role in nurturing young talents who have gone on to achieve success both locally and internationally.
The club enjoyed one of its greatest moments in 2012 when it lifted the MTN FA Cup after defeating AshantiGold, earning qualification to represent Ghana in the CAF Confederation Cup.
That same year, New Edubiase produced the Ghana Premier League’s top scorer, Emmanuel Baffour, while midfielder Mumuni Abubakar was honoured as the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Footballer of the Year.
However, the club’s fortunes declined in subsequent years, culminating in relegation from the Ghana Premier League at the end of the 2015/16 season after finishing bottom of the table with 19 points.
Despite their struggles, New Edubiase United has maintained a reputation as a talent factory, producing several players who have progressed to higher levels of the game.
Among them are Latif Anabila, who won the Ghana Premier League Promising Player of the Year award in 2015, alongside Asiedu Attobrah, Abeiku Ainooson, Ebenezer Ofori, Ibrahim Moro, and twins Fuseini Nuhu and Alhassan Nuhu.
