Black Stars needs long-term rebuilding plan after World Cup exit - Kwadwo Baah-Agyemang
Former Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Kwadwo Baah-Agyemang, has urged Ghana football authorities to adopt a long-term development strategy for the Black Stars following the team's exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars saw their campaign come to an end after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the round of 16, with Jhon Arias scoring the decisive goal in the first half.
The tournament marked Ghana's fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup and their first qualification for the knockout stage since the 2010 edition in South Africa.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Baah-Agyemang stressed that the focus should not be on achieving instant success but on building a sustainable foundation for the future of the national team.
"From what we all watched, we should not aim at immediate success. I believe that we should have a long-term plan for the Black Stars, and that will help the team to succeed," he said.
He added that while every nation desires success, meaningful progress can only be achieved through careful planning.
"Everyone wants to succeed, but you need to have a plan, and with the situation of the Black Stars at the moment, the team needs a long-term plan," he added.
Following their World Cup campaign, Ghana will now shift attention to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which begin later this year.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group C, where they will face Ivory Coast, Gambia, and Somalia as they seek to secure a place at the continental tournament.
