2026 World Cup: Carlos Queiroz admits Ghana’s exit is ‘deeply disappointing’ after Colombia defeat

Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has described his side’s elimination from the World Cup as “deeply disappointing” after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in Kansas City.

Speaking after the Round of 32 loss, the Portuguese manager said his players showed commitment but conceded they were second best on the day.

“It’s a disappointing result. It’s disappointing because the boys worked hard," the 73-year-old said.

"They tried their best. But the reality is that, on the day, especially in terms of passing and controlling the game, the Colombia team was better," he added.

The decisive moment came in the 14th minute when Jhon Arias struck from close range, converting after a cross from substitute Luis Suárez.

The defeat ends Ghana’s campaign at the first knockout stage, despite the Black Stars advancing from the group phase after finishing third in Group L. It also halts their bid to replicate the 2010 run to the latter stages of the tournament.

Ghana’s exit marks another early departure on the global stage, with the team unable to progress beyond the Round of 32.
