2026 World Cup: We fell short offensively, says Jordan Ayew after loss to Colombia
Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has admitted Ghana lost its defensive organisation in the defeat to Colombia that ended their FIFA World Cup campaign at the Round of 32 stage.
Ghana were beaten 1-0 by the South American side on Saturday morning, a result that brought their tournament to a close and could also mark the end of Ayew’s World Cup journey after appearances across three editions.
Reflecting on the performance, the 34-year-old pointed to the short time head coach Carlos Queiroz has had with the squad since his appointment in April, insisting the team is still adapting to his methods.
“We have a new manager; he just came two months ago, trying to install his class, and people are adjusting. You don’t adjust within one month or two months; football doesn’t work like that," the 34-year-old told Sporty TV.
“You could see that defensively, we were better, but we fell short a bit offensively, so we have to find the right balance. The manager needs time; he’s a very good manager,” Ayew added.
