Ministry of Sports snds government's World Cup group-stage ticket support scheme
The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has announced the conclusion of the government's ticket support scheme for Ghana's group-stage matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a statement dated June 29, 2026, the Ministry said the initiative, which was designed to support Ghanaian fans in Canada, the United States and across the world, has officially come to an end following the Black Stars' completion of their group-stage fixtures.
According to the Ministry, a limited number of tickets were procured for Ghana's matches against Panama, England and Croatia. The tickets were not intended for commercial sale but formed part of a coordinated national support intervention involving recognised supporters' groups, sponsors, stakeholders and diaspora community structures.
A total of 2,922 tickets were distributed under the scheme, comprising 948 tickets for the match against Panama, 1,000 tickets for the encounter with England and 974 tickets for the game against Croatia.
The Ministry explained that the distribution process was coordinated through Ghana's diplomatic missions in Canada and the United States in collaboration with recognised supporters' groups, sponsors and other stakeholders. The tickets were issued electronically through FIFA's mobile ticketing system to approved recipients, either directly or through designated group leaders.
Acknowledging concerns from supporters who were unable to secure tickets, the Ministry said demand for the tickets far exceeded the number available.
"We fully understand the disappointment of supporters who could not be accommodated within the limited allocation," the statement said.
The Ministry also confirmed that the government's ticket allocation covered only Ghana's group-stage matches and that there is currently no government-supported ticket arrangement for any subsequent stage of the competition.
It advised fans intending to attend any future Black Stars matches at the tournament to purchase tickets directly through FIFA's official ticketing platform or through accredited and authorised ticketing agencies.
The Ministry expressed appreciation to Ghana's diplomatic missions in Canada and the United States, recognised associations, supporters' groups and other stakeholders for their role in coordinating the ticket distribution process.
In the interest of transparency and accountability, the Ministry further disclosed that the list of individuals, groups and institutions that received tickets under the scheme will be published at a later date once an appropriate publication format has been agreed.
The statement, signed by Minister for Sports and Recreation Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, urged Ghanaians and supporters around the world to continue backing the Black Stars with unity, discipline and national pride.
