2026 World Cup: Black Stars secure Round of 32 qualification ahead of Croatia clash

Ghana have officially secured qualification to the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup ahead of their final Group L fixture against Croatia later on Saturday.

The Black Stars sealed their place in the knockout stage after collecting four points from their opening two matches, following a narrow 1-0 victory over Panama and a hard-fought goalless draw against England.

FIFA has confirmed that results in Groups F and H have reduced the qualification threshold, meaning four points are now sufficient to guarantee progression under the expanded 48-team tournament format.

The new format sees the top two teams from each of the 12 groups advance automatically, alongside the eight best third-placed teams.

Although Ghana have already secured passage to the knockout rounds, there is still much at stake when they take on Croatia at the Philadelphia Stadium.

The outcome of the encounter will determine whether the four-time African champions finish as Group L winners or runners-up, a result that will influence their Round of 32 opponents.

England have also booked their place in the knockout stage ahead of their final group match against Panama. Elsewhere, Paraguay are set to face Germany, while Egypt have already been paired with Australia in the Round of 32.

As things stand, Ghana's potential opponents in the next round are dependent on their final group position.

A top-place finish in Group L would see them face Senegal, while a second-place finish would set up a meeting with Portugal.

Should the Black Stars end the group stage in third place, they would take on Colombia in the Round of 32.
