2026 World Cup: We have proven we can perform at the highest level - Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew
Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has lauded his teammates for what he describes as a convincing display at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the squad has demonstrated it can compete at the highest level.
His comments followed a visit by a high-level government and diplomatic delegation to the team’s camp in Rhode Island on Thursday.
Ghana began their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Panama before earning a hard-fought 0-0 draw against England in their second Group L fixture.
The results leave the Black Stars level on four points heading into the final round of matches, with England edging the group on goal difference.
Speaking during the delegation’s visit, Ayew praised the team’s performances so far, saying: "We've shown that we're capable of performing at the highest level."
The delegation included Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Victor Smith, Sports and Recreation Minister Hon. Kofi Adams, Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and businessman-philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama.
Ghana, who are targeting a first appearance in the Round of 32 since 2010, will conclude their Group L campaign against Croatia on Saturday, June 27, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
The team has since relocated from Rhode Island to Philadelphia ahead of the decisive fixture.
