2026 World Cup: Jerome Opoku urges calm as Ghana eye decisive Croatia clash after England stalemate

Black Stars defender Jerome Opoku has insisted Ghana will remain grounded despite their strong start to the World Cup campaign, as attention turns to a decisive Group L meeting with Croatia.

Ghana earned a valuable point on Tuesday night after holding England to a goalless draw at Gillette Stadium, a result that moves them to four points and within touching distance of the knockout stage for the first time since 2010.

Opoku, who delivered an impressive performance in defence, stressed that the team is determined to avoid complacency as the stakes rise.

“I’m good, positive. I told you before. The vibe’s good, man,” he said.

“We’re staying humble. We’re focusing on the next game. We’re not going to let anything get to our heads. We’re going to continue," Opoku added.

The result leaves Ghana and England level on four points at the top of Group L heading into the final round of fixtures, with qualification finely balanced.

A win against Croatia would guarantee Ghana’s passage into the last 16, while England take on Panama in their concluding group match.
