2026 World Cup: I will ensure we will have no regrets against England, says Ghana captain Jordan Ayew

Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has urged calm and focus within the squad as Ghana prepare for a high-stakes World Cup Group L clash against England at Gillette Stadium.

Both sides head into the encounter on the back of opening wins, with qualification to the knockout stage firmly in sight.

Ayew said his responsibility extends beyond the pitch, stressing the need to support younger teammates and reduce pressure in a demanding fixture.

“I’m doing my best to guide the boys and to make them feel as comfortable as they can. To take the pressure off them and to do my best for us to perform on the pitch,” Ayew said.

“That’s all I do. I’m being myself, and I have to perform as well. They have to perform as well. It’s teamwork. We’re helping each other to perform.”

Ghana sit second in Group L after a narrow 1-0 win over Panama in their opening match, while England began their campaign with a 4-2 victory over Croatia.

Looking ahead to the contest in Foxborough, Ayew underlined the team’s collective mindset and determination.

“That we’re going to give our 100% and that we’re going to fight,” he said.

“I will make sure when we come out of this game, we’ll have no regrets,” he concluded.

Kick-off is scheduled for 20:00 GMT, with Ghana seeking a result that could strengthen their push for a place in the knockout rounds.
