2026 World Cup: Thomas Partey ready for England clash after Canada entry setback
Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey has spoken publicly for the first time after being denied entry into Canada ahead of Ghana's opening 2026 World Cup match against Panama last week.
The 33-year-old was unable to travel to Canada due to alleged rape charges, forcing him to miss Ghana's Group L opener against the Central American side.
Despite Partey's absence, the Black Stars secured a crucial 1-0 victory, with Caleb Yirenkyi scoring the decisive goal to hand the four-time African champions a winning start to their campaign.
Addressing the media ahead of Ghana's highly anticipated clash against England, Partey admitted it was difficult watching from the sidelines but insisted he is now fully focused and ready to contribute.
“Well, I think it’s part of football. Things happen in football that you cannot control. So, for me, now I feel okay, and I’m ready to play,” Partey told reporters on Monday.
After being cleared to join the team in the United States, the former Arsenal midfielder is expected to make his first appearance of the tournament against the Three Lions.
Partey's availability is seen as a significant boost for coach Carlos Queiroz as Ghana prepare for one of their most demanding tests of the group stage.
The Group L encounter between Ghana and England is scheduled to kick off at 20:00 GMT.
