2026 World Cup: I won't be surprised if Ghana lose to England, says Nii Odartey Lamptey
Former Ghana international Nii Odartey Lamptey has admitted he would not be shocked if the Black Stars suffer defeat against England in their second Group L match at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The four-time African champions are set to face the Three Lions on Tuesday, June 23, at Gillette Stadium, with both sides entering the clash on the back of opening-day victories.
Ghana began their fifth World Cup campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Panama at BMO Field in Toronto, while England also secured maximum points in their first group match.
Despite Ghana's positive start, Lamptey believes the Black Stars lack the quality to match Thomas Tuchel's side and considers England favourites heading into the encounter.
“I will be surprised should Black Stars win against England. They are better than us in terms of everything,” he told Asempa FM.
“I’m a Ghanaian, and if we win, I will celebrate, but on the phase of it, I’ll not be surprised if we lose to England," Odartey Lamptey added.
Carlos Queiroz's men will conclude their Group L campaign against Croatia as they seek to reach the World Cup knockout stages for the first time since their historic run to the quarter-finals in 2010.
