2026 World Cup: Ghana will “make a statement” against England, says Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo
Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo has declared Ghana’s intent to make an impact when they face England in a high-stakes 2026 World Cup Group L encounter on June 23.
Ghana head into the fixture on the back of a confidence-boosting 1-0 victory over Panama, sealed by Caleb Yirenkyi’s stoppage-time strike that secured all three points in their opening match.
Semenyo, who delivered a standout performance and was named Man of the Match, hinted that the Black Stars are eager to test themselves against one of the tournament favourites.
“We want to prove a point. I’m just going to leave that message out there,” he told Sky Sports.
England, meanwhile, top the group after an eye-catching 4-2 win over Croatia in their first game, setting up a blockbuster showdown at Gillette Stadium.
The match is expected to be pivotal in shaping the group, with Ghana aiming to build on their strong start before concluding their group campaign against Croatia four days later.
