2026 World Cup: It will be tough but we want to win - Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo ahead of England test

Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has acknowledged the magnitude of the challenge awaiting the Black Stars against England but insists the team is fully focused on securing another crucial victory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The four-time African champions began their campaign on a winning note with a hard-fought 1-0 triumph over Panama at BMO Field.

Despite facing sustained pressure for large periods of the contest, Ghana snatched all three points thanks to Caleb Yirenkyi's dramatic stoppage-time winner.

Attention has now shifted to a highly anticipated clash against England at Gillette Stadium on June 23, a fixture Semenyo expects to be demanding but one he believes Ghana can approach with confidence.

"We know it's going to be a tough game," he told the Ghana FA Media.

"I feel like we're not going to get ahead of ourselves. We know we want to win that game, but we know it's not going to be easy either.

"Make sure we recover well now and make sure we train well leading up to the England game."

The Manchester City attacker is also looking forward to facing several familiar faces from the English game, adding extra intrigue to the encounter.

"It's going to be different for sure. I'm looking forward to the challenge," he said.

" I think everyone in the Ghana team is looking forward to it. We want to prove a point. I'm just going to leave that message out there," Semenyo added.

Victory over England would significantly boost Ghana's hopes of reaching the knockout stages for the first time since their memorable run to the quarter-finals at the 2010 World Cup.

After facing the Three Lions, the Black Stars will conclude their Group campaign against Croatia on June 27, with the team aiming to build on their positive start and secure a place in the last 16.
