Former Ghana’s youngest swimmer bags first gold medal in 4 years at Meet of Champions 2026
Alexis Ewura Esi Smith, 8 years old swimmer of Ghana Dolphins in the Ghana Swim League, bags her first gold medal at the just-ended Season 4 Meet of Champions on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the Borteyman Sports Complex Aquatic Center.
Born in January 14, 2018, Alexis Smith became Ghana’s youngest swimmer back in January 2023 at the age of 4 after she represented her former swim club Torpedo in the Ghana Swim League Season 1 at the Ghana Armed Forces Sports Complex Swimming Pool, making her debut in Girls 50m Freeclass.
Making her entry in the Meet of Champions 2026 for the second time in 4 seasons and with a seeded time of 59.08s in Lane 3 for GH Dolphins, Alexis shocked the world to bag her first-ever gold medal in Girls 8 and Under 50m Backstroke, clocking a personal best of 48.79s and beating competition from 7 other swimmers on championship day 2. Eventually, 8-year-old Jade Danso-Quaitto from Ghana Bluefins Swim Club finished in sliver position (51.23s) as 7-year-old Ella Frischmuth of GH Aquatic Masters came third in silver position (52.53s).
Despite being unsure whether she would win a medal for her individual races at her second-ever Meet of Champions when interviewed by Ermines Onyema, the Official Announcer of tournament during her warm-up on Saturday, June 13, 2026, Alexis not only bagged a gold medal but also a bronze medal in Girls 8 and Under 50m Freeclass. Alexis finished fourth in Girls 8 and Under 50m Butterfly. Across team events, Alexis went ahead to grab two silver medals in Mixed 10 and Under 4×50m Medley Relay and in Girls 10 and Under 4×50m Freeclass Relay.
Besides, Alexis Smith is gradually developing as she is now ranked joint-fourth alongside 8-year-old Nana Ama Nyarko Boateng of African Sharks at the end of the Season 4 Meet of Champions. GH Dolphins, the swim club of Alexis Smith made history and are crowned overall winners of the Meet of Champions for the third consecutive year in 4 seasons with 427 points. GH Aquatic Masters finish second with 354 points as Legon Swimming Club settle for third with 213 points.
Meanwhile, the 2025/2026 swim season has been very productive for the former Ghana’s youngest swimmer as just 2 weeks before the Meet of Champions 2026, Alexis was on top form for Ghana International School (GIS) at the junior school’s swimming competition, where she won 4 gold medals in Girls 50m Freeclass (individual race), Mixed 4×25m Freeclass Relay, 4×25m Freeclass Relay and Obstacle Course (Team Event).
