2026 World Cup: We hope to have a good tournament - Goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi
Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi has expressed confidence in the Black Stars' unity and team spirit ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying the squad is determined to make the most of its campaign in North America.
The four-time African champions are preparing for their fifth appearance at the global showpiece and have been drawn in a challenging Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
Having suffered group-stage exits at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2022 tournament in Qatar, Ghana will be aiming for a stronger showing this time around. Ati-Zigi believes the togetherness within the squad could play a key role in helping the team achieve its ambitions.
Speaking to the Ghana Football Association's media team, the goalkeeper highlighted the positive atmosphere in camp and the strong bond shared by the players.
"I think it’s really a good group. We’re all together. We fight for each other. You can see there are really positive vibes each time," Ati-Zigi said.
"This is what we like, and this is what we want to keep up. We want to take this positive energy into the games. We hope that we can have a very good World Cup.”
Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama at BMO Field on June 17 before taking on England at Gillette Stadium on June 23 in what is expected to be a crucial Group L encounter.
The Black Stars will then conclude their group-stage fixtures against Croatia on June 27 as they seek to secure a place in the knockout rounds.
