2026 World Cup: We must embrace Carlos Queiroz's game plan - Black Stars goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi

Black Stars goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi has called on his teammates to fully commit to head coach Carlos Queiroz’s tactical instructions as Ghana step up preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The senior national team is building towards the tournament set to be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico, with expectations growing around the team’s prospects on the global stage.

Queiroz, who took charge in April following Otto Addo’s dismissal in March after consecutive friendly defeats to Austria and Germany, is currently on a short-term contract as he seeks to shape a competitive squad for the tournament.

Ghana tested their readiness with a 1-1 draw against Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium, a match that offered an early glimpse into the new technical direction under the experienced Portuguese coach.

Speaking to the Ghana Football Association media team, the St. Gallen goalkeeper praised Queiroz’s experience and stressed the importance of discipline and unity within the squad.

"He’s a very experienced coach. He has a lot of information. We just have to take the good information he gives us and try to make use of it. The expectation is teamwork,” Ati-Zigi said.

“We’re going to fight to the end. We’re going to give it all, and we hope that we’ll make Ghanaians proud,” he added.

Ghana, four-time African champions, will be making their fifth World Cup appearance and have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

The Black Stars open their campaign against Panama at BMO Field on June 17, before taking on England at Gillette Stadium on June 23. They wrap up their group fixtures against Croatia on June 27.
