2926 World Cup: Carlos Queiroz must assert authority - David Accam
Former Black Stars winger David Accam has called on head coach Carlos Queiroz to take firm control of the Ghana national team as they gear up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Portuguese tactician, appointed in April on a short-term deal to replace Otto Addo, has been tasked with steadying Ghana ahead of the global showpiece in North America.
Accam believes Queiroz’s arrival presents a timely opportunity for the Black Stars to reset and rebuild competitiveness on the international stage.
The veteran coach brings decades of experience at both club and international level, having previously managed top national teams including Iran and Egypt, as well as several prominent clubs.
Speaking to Graphic Sports, Accam expressed confidence in Queiroz’s pedigree but stressed the need for strong leadership within the squad.
“Carlos Queiroz is a big coach. He has coached top teams and countries, so I do not think this challenge is too big for him,” Accam said.
“He has the experience. What he needs to do is be firm, stamp his authority on the team and bring something different from what we have seen before.
"Hopefully, he can build a solid team that plays as one and fights to win for the country," he added.
Ghana, set to make their fifth World Cup appearance, have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
The Black Stars have already arrived in the United States to step up their preparations and will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field, before facing England at Gillette Stadium on June 23 and wrapping up the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
They will complete their build-up with a final warm-up fixture against Jamaica on June 10.
