2026 World Cup: We must show our quality against opponents, says Black Stars skipper Jordan Ayew

Ghana captain Jordan Ayew has called on the Black Stars to step up and demonstrate their quality as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

Ghana are among a record ten African nations heading to the tournament and have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.

Following a 1-1 draw with Wales at Cardiff City Stadium in their recent warm-up fixture, Ayew stressed the need for belief and readiness as the team gears up for the global showpiece.

"We have to prove ourselves, and we have to show that we have quality, and we have to be ready for the challenge," he told FIFA.

He added that external doubts should serve as added motivation for the squad as they aim to make an impact on the world stage.

"We all know it's going to be difficult, but we are ready. Obviously, I know people don't think that we will do well, so that is good," the former Leicester City forward added.

The Black Stars have already arrived in the United States and will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field, before facing England at Gillette Stadium on June 23 and concluding their group stage against Croatia on June 27.

Ghana will complete their preparations with a final warm-up match against Jamaica on June 10.
