Ghana’s Abigail Quartey set for Commonwealth title clash in Scotland after frustration over inactivity
Ghana’s first-ever female world boxing champion, Abigail Quartey, has secured a major international bout after expressing frustration over a prolonged period of inactivity following her world title triumph.
Quartey, who holds a professional record of 10 wins and one defeat with seven knockouts, is set to face Britain’s Cassidy Todd for the Commonwealth Super Bantamweight Silver title on May 29, 2026, at the Lagoon Leisure Centre in Paisley, Scotland.
The Ghanaian boxer recently appeared on Omashi TV’s flagship sports programme, The Big Fight Night, where she announced her decision to part ways with her former manager, Solomon Otoo, citing inactivity and a lack of opportunities since becoming world champion.
According to Quartey, she could no longer remain in camp without competitive fights to advance her career.
“I have not fought since I won the IBF world title, and I cannot keep training without a fight,” she said during the interview.
Despite her frustrations, the 27-year-old now has a fresh opportunity to relaunch her career on the international stage against Todd in what is expected to be a highly competitive contest.
Popularly known as “Kwartekaa,” Quartey etched her name into Ghana’s boxing history on November 18, 2024, when she defeated British boxer Sangeeta Birdi at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra to win the WIBF World Super Bantamweight title.
