GBF President Dauda Fuseni backs Black Bombers to impress at Commonwealth Games

President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), Dauda Fuseni, has expressed confidence in the Black Bombers’ chances ahead of this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Speaking to the media after Ghana’s special boxing tournament against Nigeria at the Accra Sports Stadium last Thursday, Fuseni said he believes the national boxing team is capable of producing a stronger performance than previous squads.

“I can’t promise, but this team will do better than the previous one because it is their destiny to shine,” he stated.

Fuseni explained that although the current squad is relatively young, several members already possess international exposure after competing in youth tournaments in Guinea and Serbia-Montenegro.

He also praised the Nigerian side, particularly their dominance in the women’s division, describing the contest as a valuable test for both countries ahead of major international assignments.

“The Nigerians gave us a good run for our money, and it was a good training exercise. These are part of preparations for the Commonwealth and Olympic Games,” he added.

The Ghanaian male boxers who featured in the competition included Ebenezer Ankrah, Desmond Pappoe, Abdul Wahid Omar, Amadu Mohammed and Khalid Abdul, who was the only Ghanaian boxer to suffer defeat on the night.

Notable boxers absent from the event included George Dowuona, Mathias Ashitey and Precious Akai Nettey, who are currently on a European tour with Bukom Boxing Club.

The women’s team, known as the Black Hitters, featured Ramatu Quaye, Nancy Bamfo and Elizabeth Nartey.

The technical team for the national side includes Dr. Ofori Asare, Charles Quartey, Daniel Lartekwei Lartey and Benjamin Tetteh.

Fuseni also commended the GHANA HOUSE project in Glasgow, describing it as an innovative initiative aimed at rallying support for Ghanaian athletes during the Games.

“Once it will promote and project Ghana, I am for it and we are good to go,” he said.
