We have assembled the talented and ambitious for Mexico friendly game - Black Stars assistant coach Desmond Ofei
Black Stars assistant coach Desmond Ofei has expressed confidence in the quality and ambition of the squad assembled for Ghana’s upcoming international friendly against Mexico, describing the group as one built on talent, hunger, and strong motivation.
A 23-man team has been named for the fixture, which forms part of Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be staged in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking in an interview with Flashscore, Ofei highlighted the mix of players selected for the game and the purpose behind the call-ups.
"For the upcoming game against Mexico, we have selected a very talented and ambitious group of players from our local league, alongside some exciting U23 talents and players who are highly motivated to show their qualities to the nation and to our new head coach, Mr Carlos Queiroz."
Following the clash with Mexico, the Black Stars will conclude their pre-tournament build-up with another friendly against Wales on June 2.
Ghana, four-time African champions, will be making their fifth appearance at the World Cup and have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. They open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23, and wrapping up the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
The Black Stars are aiming to progress beyond the group stage for the first time since their historic run in 2010, having exited at the first hurdle in both the 2014 and 2022 editions.
