2026 World Cup: Kwadwo Asamoah backs Black Stars to deliver despite tough group draw

Former Ghana international Kwadwo Asamoah says he is hopeful the Black Stars can deliver a strong showing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, even as he acknowledges the challenges ahead.

Ghana, four-time African champions, have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama as they prepare for their fifth appearance at football’s biggest tournament.

Speaking in an interview with 3Sports, the former midfielder tempered expectations but insisted he still believes in the team’s potential on the global stage.

“Honestly, I'm not expecting much, but I'm hoping for the best because Ghana has always been one of the favourites when it comes to the World Cup, among African teams, but it won't be easy,” Asamoah said.

The Black Stars will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23, and concluding their group stage matches against Croatia on June 27.

Ahead of the tournament, Carlos Queiroz’s side will step up preparations with friendly matches against Mexico later this month and Wales on June 2.
