Daniel Laryea left out of final selected referees for 2026 World Cup
Ghanaian referee Daniel Nii Laryea has been left out of the final list of match officials selected by FIFA for the 2026 World Cup in North America.
Laryea, who featured at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, had been widely tipped to earn a place among Africa’s representatives but ultimately missed the cut.
FIFA confirmed that seven referees from the continent will officiate at the tournament, reflecting a diverse blend of experience from both domestic leagues and continental competitions.
The selected officials are Mustapha Ghorbal (Algeria), Amin Mohamed (Egypt), Pierre Atcho (Gabon), Jalal Jayed (Morocco), Dahane Beida (Mauritania), Abongile Tom (South Africa), and Omar Abdulkadir Artan (Somalia).
Notably absent from the list is Jean Ndala Ngambo, who officiated the AFCON final earlier this year.
Senegal’s Issa Sy has also been excluded following his involvement in a controversial CAF Champions League fixture between Al Ahly and Espérance Sportive de Tunis.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be staged across the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.
