We saw things that should never happen anymore - South Africa boss Hugo Broos slams AFCON 2025 hosting
South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has voiced concerns over the handling of certain incidents during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Broos, who led the South African team to a Round of 16 finish, revealed that troubling issues surfaced shortly after the squad returned home.
“Three, four days after we came back from the AFCON, we saw things that should never happen anymore,” Broos said.
He explained that the technical team had to act swiftly, including removing some players from the squad.
“We also saw things that we knew we couldn’t change immediately, so we dropped them and took all the players,” he added.
The coach urged those affected to reflect on their absence from the national team setup.
“And I hope that those guys, maybe we’re not there now, but those guys need to ask themselves why they’re not with the national team,” he stated.
Broos’ comments come as national teams begin regrouping and evaluating performances in preparation for the next AFCON tournament.
