Pink Ladies Cup: Black Queens crowned champions after last game called off
Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, have been crowned champions of the Pink Ladies Cup held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The Black Queens were declared winners after their final fixture against Tanzania was called off amid unrest in the Middle East, bringing the competition to an abrupt end.
Ghana began the tournament in dominant fashion, recording a 4-0 victory over Hong Kong. Goals from Princess Marfo, Doris Boaduwaa, Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah and Ajegipena Zakaria sealed an emphatic opening win.
The Queens followed it up with another commanding 4-0 triumph against Russia. Doris Boaduwaa scored twice, while Stella Nyamekye and Ajegipena Zakaria also found the net.
Those back-to-back victories placed head coach Kim Lars Björkegren and his side firmly in control of the standings, effectively securing the title ahead of the final match.
Individually, Doris Boaduwaa finished as the tournament’s top scorer with three goals in two matches, earning the Golden Boot for her impressive performances.
