Ibrahim Jazil Abanga embarks on 600km cycling independence expedition

Cyclist Ibrahim Jazil Abanga has embarked on a 600-plus kilometre cycling expedition from Tamale to Accra>, championing national unity, youth empowerment and the promotion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The expedition, which began on Sunday, March 1, 2026, is themed “Pedal for National Unity, Youth Empowerment, and Resetting Ghana through Technical and Vocational Education.” It seeks to inspire young people to embrace skills training as a pathway to national development.

On Day One, Abanga cycled from Tamale to Buipe. Day Two saw him continue from Buipe to Techiman, before advancing on Day Three from Techiman towards Kumasi, where he is currently a few kilometres away from the city.

The journey will proceed from Kumasi to Nkawkaw on Day Four, then to Nsawam on Day Five. On Day Six, he will complete the final stretch from Nsawam to Accra, heading straight to the Flagstaff House to participate in activities marking the Independence Day Parade.
