2026 World Cup: Our intention is to stay there until the last game, says Ghana's Sports Minister, Kofi Adams
Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams, says the country is targeting playing in the final of the upcoming 2026 World Cup, which the USA, Canada and Mexico will co-host.
Ghana, who are making their fifth World Cup appearance this summer, have been housed in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
Having suffered back-to-back group-stage eliminations at the 2014 and 2022 Mundials in Brazil and Qatar, respectively, Kofi Adams insists they are aiming to reach the final of the tournament this summer.
“Our intention is to stay there until the last game. So you have to prepare," the Buem MP told Citi Sports.
“You don't get there, and when you are doing well, before you start calling for that to happen, because once you have qualified, you have to plan ahead, and I saw that some people were a bit worried.
“Why do we have to do it? But we are going in there with the mindset that we will stay all the way to the end," Adams added.
The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and conclude group play against Croatia on June 27.
As part of their preparations, the Black Stars are scheduled to regroup in March for friendlies against Austria and Germany, before completing their build-up with a match against Mexico in May.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that the team will be based at Bryant University in the United States for the duration of the tournament.
