2025/26 GPL Matchday 24 Wrap Up: Dreams FC shock Aduana FC as Bibiani GoldStars beat Hearts of Oak to end unbeaten run
Matchday 24 of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League wrapped up across the country over the weekend, with fixtures played on Friday, February 28 and Sunday, March 1, producing significant movement at both ends of the table.
Friday afternoon at the Swedru Stadium brought more misery for Eleven Wonders, who slumped to a 2-0 home defeat against Nations FC. Joseph Effah opened the scoring before Emmanuel Annor added a second after the break to secure all three points for the Abrankese-based side and compound the hosts’ struggles.
The pressure at the top intensified on Sunday as leaders Medeama SC were held to a goalless draw by Swedru All Blacks at the Swedru Sports Stadium. In a tightly contested encounter short on clear-cut chances, neither side managed to find the breakthrough. The result keeps the Tarkwa club on 46 points, but their once-comfortable lead has been cut to just a single point.
Hot on their heels are defending champions Bibiani Gold Stars FC, who continued their surge with a hard-earned 2-1 victory over Hearts of Oak. The Miners claimed a fourth straight league win to move to 45 points, firmly igniting what is shaping into a gripping title race.
Gold Stars made a purposeful start and were rewarded in the 15th minute when Samuel Atta Kumi broke the deadlock. Hearts of Oak responded through Henry Kwaku Boateng to level matters, setting up a finely balanced contest. But late drama swung the tie in favour of the champions as Augustine Boakye struck the decisive goal, sending the home supporters into celebration.
The defeat leaves Hearts in third place on 40 points, still within striking distance but under mounting pressure as the chasing pack tightens.
At the Baba Yara Stadium, Asante Kotoko were left frustrated by a stubborn Vision FC side in a goalless stalemate. Kotoko dominated possession and carved out several opportunities but could not find a way past the visitors, who held firm despite playing the final 21 minutes with ten men following Mohammed Awudu’s dismissal. The Porcupine Warriors remain fourth, seven points adrift of the summit.
Dreams FC revived their campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Aduana FC at the Tuba Astro Turf. A 67th-minute strike from John Antwi secured Dreams’ first victory in six outings, lifting them to 11th place, while Aduana’s title hopes suffered a dent as they slipped eight points off the pace.
In Hohoe, Hohoe United boosted their survival hopes with a gritty 1-0 triumph over FC Samartex 1996. Kekeli Attor’s early second-half effort proved decisive as the Timber Giants’ away troubles continued.
Basake Holy Stars FC also strengthened their position with a narrow home victory against Heart of Lions, who were reduced to ten men early in the contest. Prince Tweneboah’s goal sealed successive home wins and moved Holy Stars further clear of the relegation zone.
At the Golden City Park, Berekum Chelsea snatched a dramatic 1-1 draw against Young Apostles. Richmond Opoku had given the visitors the lead, but Benjamin Abaidoo struck deep into stoppage time to rescue a point for Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Bechem United and Karela United settled for a tense goalless draw at Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park. Bechem finished with ten men after Rasco Abassah London’s late red card, yet Karela were unable to capitalise. Karela sit seventh on 35 points, while Bechem drop to 12th.
After 24 matches, Medeama lead the standings, followed closely by Bibiani Gold Stars, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko in the top four. At the other end, Hohoe United, Young Apostles and Eleven Wonders remain entrenched in the relegation zone as the battle for survival intensifies.
