FIFA U-20 WWCQ: Black Princesses shock South Africa to progress to next round

Ghana’s Black Princesses have secured a spot in the next stage of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

The U-20 national team was held to a 2-2 draw by South Africa in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, but they bounced back in the return leg to claim progression.

Coach Charles Simpson, responding to last week’s disappointing results, fielded a strong lineup for the crucial clash.

The first half remained goalless at Nelspruit-Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, but the Black Princesses turned the tide after the break.

Priscilla Mensah’s 63rd-minute strike proved decisive, securing a 1-0 victory that booked Ghana’s place in the next round.

Despite a late attempt from South Africa, the Black Princesses were able to hold onto their lead, going on to claim a 3-2 aggregate win.

In the upcoming stage, the Black Princesses could face either Zambia or Uganda as they aim for their eighth consecutive appearance at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, scheduled for Poland in September 2026.
