CAF Confederation Cup: Ghana's Daniel Laryea to officiate Kaizer Chiefs v Al Masry clash

Ghanaian referee Daniel Laryea has been appointed to oversee the CAF Confederation Cup clash between South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs and Egypt’s Al Masry, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed.

The match, scheduled for Sunday, January 8 in South Africa, sees both clubs vying for a place in the next round of the competition.

Laryea’s appointment comes on the back of a string of high-profile assignments across the continent.

At the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), he officiated the semi-final between Morocco and Nigeria, earning widespread praise for his performance, even amid criticism from some Nigerian fans.

Domestically, Laryea’s stature continues to rise. He was recently honoured by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after receiving his FIFA referee badge, cementing his place among Ghana’s top referees eligible for international duty.

His selection for the Kaizer Chiefs–Al Masry game highlights Ghana’s growing prominence in African football officiating.
