2025/26 GPL: Razak Simpson nets brace as Nations FC end Medeama's 17-match unbeaten run
Nations FC brought Medeama SC’s remarkable 17-game unbeaten run to an abrupt end with a hard-fought 2-1 victory on Friday afternoon at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese.
The Matchday 21 encounter saw the league leaders draw first blood as in-form striker Kingsley Braye rose majestically to head home an inch-perfect corner from Fatawu Sulemana in the 8th minute, handing the Mauve and Yellow an early lead.
Nations FC, however, showed character and composure to wrestle control of the contest, with skipper Razak Simpson leading by example. The defender levelled the score in the 19th minute, powering in a header from a corner to beat Medeama goalkeeper Felix Kyei.
Simpson then capped a memorable first-half display just before the interval. After Nations were awarded a penalty in the 43rd minute, the captain stepped up and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner to complete his brace and send the hosts into the break with a 2-1 advantage.
Medeama pushed hard for an equaliser after the restart, applying sustained pressure in the second half, but Nations FC’s defence stood firm to protect their slender lead until the final whistle.
The defeat represents only Medeama SC’s second loss of the season and their first in 18 matches, ending an impressive unbeaten run that had stretched back to September 2025.
Despite the setback, Medeama remain top of the league table with 43 points. Nations FC, meanwhile, climb to eighth place with 27 points and will look to build on this momentum when they travel to face Hohoe United.
Medeama will aim to bounce back against Aduana FC at the TNA Park, with both fixtures scheduled for Matchday 22 next weekend.
