2026 WAFCON: Black Queens have the qualities to qualify for the World Cup - Kurt Okraku

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has expressed confidence that the Black Queens have what it takes to qualify for and compete at the Women’s World Cup.

The team has been drawn in Group D alongside Cameroon, Cape Verde, and Mali for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which will be hosted in Morocco.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, with the semifinalists earning a spot at the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Speaking after the draw, Okraku highlighted the strength and quality of the squad, emphasizing that with proper support, Ghana can reach the World Cup.

"We will want to be at the World Cup, and I believe Black Queens have the qualities to be at the World Cup. We have the right technical team to support the girls, and the government is ready to support the girls," he said.

"If it is about pressure, there is pressure everywhere, but what is important is how you react to situations.

"The head coach is very experienced to guide the girls, and I have no doubt whatsoever that we will compete and make it to the World Cup," Mr Okraku added.

The Black Queens will be based in Fes during the group stage of the tournament.
