Bilal Mohammed Annexes WABU Title
It took Ghana's Bilal 'Take Punch' Mohammed two minutes and 45 seconds in the second round to defeat Benin's Tijani 'Petit et Petit' Mohammed to annex the vacant WABU lightweight title last Sunday.
The bout, the main feature on the Opportunity Knock (Gbamusu) Night put together by Ambition Promotions in collaboration with Commonwealth Sports Awards, saw Bilal dominating Mohammed throughout the first round.
In another West African Boxing Union title fight, Alfred 'Stinging Bee' Tetteh of the Bukom Gym annexed the vacant title after defeating Tossavi Louis of Benin through a fourth round Technical knockout.
Nii Ayi Bruce (Bruce Lee) also emerged national super lightweight champion after surprisingly defeating Ben 'Congo Soldier' Ankrah of the Bronx Gym.
In supporting bouts, Prince Doku of the Believer Gym combined aggressiveness and hard punching to overpower Sagacious Gym's Peter Musah in a six-round lightweight contest.
Both boxers began the bout punch-shy and were moving around the ring in the first two rounds, but Doku took over afterwards and landed some very good jabs.
Kofi Manu, also a Sagacious product, won the hearts of fans when he completely outclassed Believer Gym's Frank Dodzie by a unanimous decision. The scorecards of the judges read 59-55, 60-55 and 59-56 in Manu's favour.
Ian Wallace, also of the Attoh Quarshie Gym, recorded a third round technical knockout over Alfred Quaye of Fit Square Gym.
Wallace knocked Quaye down in the third round and the latter managed to beat the Referee's count but was unable to continue.
The national middleweight championship bout between Mohammed Akrong and Daniel Allotey ended abruptly due to a heavy downpour.
The bouts were sponsored by Sultan Mineral Water, Ghana Tours and Astraeus Airlines, Sports Network Limited, UK, Ultimate Phones, New Coco Beach Hotel and Amaadi Cold Stores.
