2025 WAFU B Girls Championship: We want to defend our title, says Black Princesses coach Charles Simpson
Black Princesses head coach Charles Sampson has set his sights on retaining the title at the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Women’s Cup in Benin.
Speaking to the Ghana FA website ahead of Ghana’s opening match, Sampson acknowledged the challenges of a late arrival, which saw the team miss their initial training session.
“Unfortunately, we came a bit late yesterday, so we couldn’t train as planned. We were forced to put in a lot of effort today to be ready for tomorrow [today],” he said.
The coach stressed that the tournament offers a crucial platform for his squad to gain international experience ahead of their FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against South Africa.
“We’re taking this as a stepping stone for our World Cup qualifiers with South Africa,” he noted.
Sampson emphasized the players’ determination to uphold Ghana’s legacy in the competition.
“Our aim is to win it. Being defending champions is a big motivation for the girls, and they want to replicate what their predecessors did,” he concluded.
