2025 CAF Awards: Ghana's Black Queens nominated for Team of the Year
The Black Queens of Ghana have earned a nomination for the Women’s National Team of the Year award ahead of the 2025 CAF Awards, following their impressive performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Ghana’s women clinched the bronze medal in a campaign defined by resilience, tactical discipline, and renewed belief in their continental prospects.
The recognition underscores the Black Queens’ resurgence under head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren, whose leadership, coupled with standout performances from key players like Stella Nyamekye, has restored optimism in Ghana’s women’s football project.
The team is set to regroup next week as preparations begin for the 2026 WAFCON qualifiers against Egypt. The first leg is scheduled for October 23 in Suez, with the return leg set for October 28 in Accra.
Buoyed by their success in Morocco, the Black Queens are determined to carry their momentum into the next phase as they continue their push to reclaim a place among Africa’s elite sides.
CAF has also released the full list of nominees for the 2025 Women’s National Team of the Year award, which includes Ghana among the continent’s top performers.
