GFA, Adesa partnership lifeline for Premier League clubs - John Paintsil

Black Stars assistant coach John Paintsil has welcomed the GHC 18 million financial package announced for Ghana Premier League (GPL) clubs, describing it as a significant boost that will ease the financial strain on club owners.

Ahead of the 2025/26 season, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) revealed a partnership with Adesa Production Limited (APL), through which each GPL club is set to receive GHC 1 million before the season’s kick-off.

The initiative is designed to improve club operations, enhance player welfare, and sustain competitive standards across the league.

Speaking to Citi Sports, Paintsil highlighted the relief the funding will provide to those managing football in Ghana.

“The 18 million GHC for the GPL clubs is a big boost; it will lift the stress of the club owners. People who are running football in Ghana are getting tired without sponsorship from anywhere,” he said.

With the funds scheduled for disbursement ahead of the season, stakeholders are optimistic that the investment will inject renewed energy into the league, improve matchday experiences, and attract more fans to local games.

The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season is set to kick off on September 12.
