2024 WAFCON: I am happy we did not go home empty-handed - Black Queens forward Alice Kusi

Black Queens forward Alice Kusi has expressed her satisfaction after the team wrapped up their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a bronze medal.

Ghana recorded a 4-3 win on penalty shootout after the game ended 1-1 in regulation time.

However, Banyana Banyana took the lead late in the first half after a mistake by goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan allowed Nonhlanhla Mthandi to score.

The Black Queens responded with intensity in the second half and were rewarded in the 68th minute when Kusi finished off a Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah cross to level the score.

“I’m happy we didn’t go home empty-handed. We couldn’t reach the final, but we’re going home with something,” said Kusi.

“I’m really excited to be the woman of the match," she added.

This is the first time Ghana has won a medal at the WAFCON since 2016.
