Ghana’s Ambassador to Morocco, Her Excellency Charity Gbedawo, beleives the timely payment of Black Queens' outstanding bonuses boosted them ahead of their final group game against Tanzania.
After a disappointing start ot the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament, the Black Queens secured a 4-1 win to book a place in the last eight of the tournament.
Speaking after the match, Ambassador Gbedawo praised the team’s performance and highlighted the timely financial support as a motivating factor.
“I told you earlier that we were having some challenges with regard to their finance and things. But the Minister for Sports quickly intervened and dispatched the accounting officer to come and sort them out,” she said.
“So, it also boosted their morale, with the little support that the embassy also gave. So, we are not surprised. We are grateful to God that we have made it. And I know that they are going to make Ghana proud.”
